    home woes continued…

18th January, and my first Canuck game in a few years down at the Garage – I was excited!  So early this afternoon, I climb up into the old attic and dig out one of my fourty hockey jerseys – my home ‘skate’ jersey with McLean stiched on the back on it is!  We arrive nice and early and to catch the warm up, and get nicely settled in.  I hadn’t been to GM Place since they put in the new screen, and gave the arena it’s makeover - amazing difference!  What an atmosphere to watch our ‘Nucks in!
Standing against the glass during warm up had me feeling like I was ten years old again when I’d go watch the Kings come into town.  In total & complete awe of the players, their agility, size & speed – I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.  What a terrific feeling!

So despite going 0-4-1 on this five game home stand, and flushing away another point in the shootout tonight, I think this team has turned a corner.  They looked better, they played with a lot of heart & determinaton, and they stood up for one another.  They look good, and I think we may be in for a pleasant surprise this second half of the season!

Michaela - I am crazy about the different depths of field and focus! Wow! It makes the photos look so incredibly interesting (even to someone who never watches hockey). Bravo!

Ericha Farrington - You’re welcome! I see that you said you were shooting on f/2.5 – what lens were you using?

Sean Norman - Thanks kindly, Ericha! I was shooting through glass – fortunately shooting at a large aperture helped eliminate many of the marks/scuffs on it!

Sean Norman - Hei Allie – thanks for the compliments & comments! I think the EXIF should be intact on the images, but in case you can’t view I shot manual (always do) & believe most of these were ISO 400/500 @ f/2.5 and around 1/640th? The reflections can be tricky, and it pays to experiment standing in different places because of the people behind you with different coloured clothes on (white is the worst). You can see on the Bieksa shot that I got a nasty white reflection. Hope this helps you!

    VancityAllie - Hi Sean,

Really wonderful captures! So crisp and clear. Can I ask what settings you were shooting at and with what equipment? I always want to get shots like this at Canucks games but a) They always turn out too blurry and b)I always get glass reflections.

I’m still rooting for the Canucks. I know this fragile team can make it out alive this season. :)

Anna - Love that description in the beginning and you got some really terrific shots! Fourth down is my favourite, but they’re all great :)

Ericha Farrington - Nice hockey shots! Were you shooting through the glass? You can’t really tell…I know that is always a problem in Philly here, especially at Phantoms (AHL) games – horrible glass!!
